Life of Pi



Plot Summary forLife of Pi(2012)

Based on the best-selling novel by Yann Martel, is a magical adventure story centering on Pi Patel, the precocious son of a zoo keeper. Dwellers in Pondicherry, India, the family decides to move to Canada, hitching a ride on a huge freighter. After a shipwreck, Pi finds himself adrift in the Pacific Ocean on a 26-foot lifeboat with a zebra, a hyena, an orangutan and a 450-pound Bengal tiger named Richard Parker, all fighting for survival.




According to reports, most of the sea drift scene shot in an old airport in Taiwan. The crew in this place to build a large pool, all sea scenes in the film where the film was shooting finished here. Film props designer David Gropman said: Our large pool length of 60 meters, 30 meters wide and 2.7 meters deep, we were able to create 50 different types of waves.

据介绍,海上漂流的戏份大部分是在台湾台中的一个废旧机场里完成的,剧组在这个地方搭建了一个大的水池,影片里的海上场景就在这里完成。影片道具的设计师:大卫·戈洛普曼介绍说:“我们的大水池长60米,宽30米,深2.7米,我们能够造出50种不同的波浪。”


The Tigers was produced by Bill Weston. He is ‘The Chronicles of Narnia: the Lion, the witch, and the wardrobe’ CG biological visual effect director. He said: We collected more than 100 hours of tiger video material obsercation and copy their manner and behavior. But in the film still 24 shots with four real tiger shooting.

老虎由曾制作过《纳尼亚传奇:狮子、女巫、魔衣橱》中CG生物的视觉特效总监比尔·韦斯顿哈夫负责,“我们收集了长达100小时的老虎视频素材观察和复制它们的神态与行为,不过片中仍然有24个镜头是用四只真正的老虎拍摄的”。


In the ‘life of Pi’ production of TV, Ang Lee talked about the understanding of the film: To make the film he know themselves, understand the world and the process of the relationship between people. In my memory, the same meaning is also expressed in his ‘ten years to sleep the film Dream’ book. His every film is directly to one's heart's desire.

在《少年pi》的制作特辑里,李安谈到了对影片的理解:拍这部电影是他认识自己、认识世界、认识人与人之间关系的过程。如果没记错的话,同样的意思在他的《十年一觉电影梦》一书中也表达过.他的每一部电影都直达人内心的欲望。


Ang Lee said: shoot this film is an impossible task, but his own hard work four years after all done. Story from adventure to become some fantasy, Pi actually do not have a lot of inner expression lens, but I can feel it.

李安说,拍这电影是不可能完成的任务,但他自己辛苦努力四年终究做到了。我第一次如此感受到3D是一部电影不可分割的一部分,以及变换的画幅比例、层层交替的剪辑,一切都是为了故事本身。故事从冒险到有些奇幻,PI其实没有很多内心表达的镜头,但我可以感受到它。

My Favorite Film 'The Big Blue'



What "The Big Blue" narrated is how two divers realize the true meaning of life in the race: Yak (Jean Marc Barr)  who deeply loves the sea has wanted to be a companion with the sea. Even if his father died in a diving accident when he was young, Yak’s love for the sea had not been changed.

《碧海蓝天》讲述的是两个潜水员在竞技中体会出人生真谛的故事:热爱大海的雅克(Jean-Marc Barr饰),一直想与大海为伍,即使他在年少的时候,父亲因一次潜水发生意外而被大海吞噬,雅克对大海的爱始终没有改变。


However, in an unexpected meeting, Yak got to know a beautiful young girl Joanna (Rosanna Arquette) and fell in love with her. Since then, Yak's life became uncontrollable, and Yak was at a loss with the choice between Joanna and the sea.

但是在一次偶然的邂逅中,雅克认识了年轻美丽的女子乔安娜(Rosanna Arquette饰)并且爱上了她,自此之后,雅克的生活似乎变得无法掌握,雅克六神无主地旁徨在大海与乔安娜的抉择中。

The Undersea World of Jacques Cousteau



In high school, Cousteau became bored with school and began to cause trouble. As a result, his parents sent him to a strict boarding school. Cousteau excelled in this new environment and upon graduation(毕业), he entered the Ecole Navale (Naval Academy) in Brest. In 1933, Cousteau joined the French Navy as a gunnery(射击) officer. It was during this time that he began his underwater explorations and began working on a breathing machine for longer dives.
In 1937, Cousteau married Simone Melchoir, and they had two sons, Jean-Michel and Phillipe. Two years after their marriage, Cousteau fought for the French in World War II. He spent time as a spy and was awarded several medals(奖章). During the war, Cousteau still found time to continue his underwater work. In 1943, he and French engineer Emile Gagnan perfected the aqualung(水中呼吸器), which allowed a diver to stay underwater for several hours. Divers used the aqualung to located and remove enemy mines after World War II.



 Cousteau was named a captain(船长) de corvette(巡洋舰) of the French navy in 1948, and two years later he became president of the French Oceanographic Campaigns. That same year, Cousteau purchased the ship Calypso(“卡里普索”号船) to further his explorations. To finance his trips and increase public awareness of his undersea investigations, Cousteau produced numerous films and published many books. His films include The Silent World (1956) and World Without Sun (1966). Both won Academy Awards for best documentary. His books include The Living Sea (1963), Dolphins (1975), and Jacques Cousteau: The Ocean World (1985).
 Because of his many projects, Cousteau retired from the French navy. In 1957, he became director of the Oceanographic(海洋学的)Museum of Monaco, founded the Underseas Research Group at Toulon, and headed the Con shelf Saturation Dive Program. The Con shelf program was an experiment in which men lived and worked underwater for extended periods of time.



In 1968, Cousteau was asked to make a TV series. For the next 8 years, The Undersea World of Jacques Cousteau introduced the public to a world of sharks, whales, dolphins, sunken treasure, and coral reefs(珊瑚礁). In 1974, Cousteau started the Cousteau Society to protect ocean life. The membership of this non-profit group has grown to include more than 300,000 members worldwide. Cousteau was awarded the Medal of Freedom by President Reagan in 1985 and in 1989, he was honored by France with membership in the French Academy.
 On January 11, 1996 the Calypso(“卡里普索”号船) sank in Singapore harbor(海港). In his last years, Cousteau was involved in a legal(法律的) battle with his son, Jean-Michael over the use of the Cousteau name. Cousteau died on June 25, 1997.



In Luc Besson’s film ‘The big blue’, Jack as dolphins dive deep into the sea, as if there is his hometown. The film hero prototype is Jacques-Yves Cousteau.
Read a lot about his introduction, to know my favorite film is to tell stories about him. It is amazing!

'THE COVE'




Last week, I watched ‘ The cove’. 



Former National Geographic photographer Louie Psihoyos directed the film. Portions were filmed secretly during 2007 using underwater microphones and high-definition cameras disguised as rocks.
‘The Cove’ is a 2009 documentary film that analyzes and questions Japan's dolphin hunting culture. It was awarded the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature in 2010. The film is a call to action to halt mass dolphin kills, change Japanese fishing practices, and to inform and educate the public about the risks, and increasing hazard, of mercury poisoning from dolphin meat. The film is told from an ocean conservationist's point of view. The film highlights the fact that the number of dolphins killed in the Taiji dolphin drive hunting is several times greater than the number of whales killed in the Antarctic, and claims that 23,000 dolphins and porpoises are killed in Japan every year by the country's whaling industry. The migrating dolphins are herded into a cove where they are netted and killed by means of spears and knives over the side of small fishing boats. The film argues that dolphin hunting as practiced in Japan is unnecessary and cruel. 



I only feel anger, when I after watching the ‘The cove’. But behind the anger, it caused objective thinking for some critics of this documentary.
I read some film reviews,then watched film again. Actually for a documentary of origin should be objective and fair. But in ‘the cove’, the personal’s individual above the objective facts. 


在刚刚看完海豚湾时,就只感觉到愤怒。不过在愤怒背后,也引起一些影评对这部纪录片客观的思考。我观看了一些影评,然后将影片又看了几遍。实际上对于一部本应该以客观公正为本源的纪录片来说,海豚湾中的个人意志已经凌驾于客观事实之上 。


In this film I can leaned how to make my documentary have life. In fact, from the initial intent of the shooting and the final screen point of view, ‘the cove’ likes an extended version of investing journalism. In simple structure and clear clues, to the sneak into bloody land and candid shooting become a traction audience's great suspense. We went into the truth of the step by step. The film guide us into a noble, then the bloodshed sea let us have a kind of can not escape the sense of guilt. This kind of sentimental power, let the audience cannot stay out. Simply means that touched the audience’s nerves.


在这个影片中我可以学到的就是要让我的纪录片活,那就一定要让它具有意义。其实从最初的拍摄意图和最终的银幕上看,海豚湾很像一部加长版的新闻调查。在简单的结构和明晰的线索下,对血腥之地的潜入和偷拍成为一个牵引观众的巨大悬念,我们身不由已地一步步走进真相,影片引导我们进入一个崇高的状态,然后血染成的大海就让我们具有一种无法逃脱的罪恶感,这种悲情的力量,让观众无法置身事外。简单的说就是触动观众的神经。


So documentary need meaningful. It will be more persuasive, to impress the audience.


所以纪录片一定要具有意义,这样才具有说服力,才能打动观众。
